Pattern for Crocheting a Rattle

This tiny rattle consists of a wooden ring (2.5″), a rattle box (1.5″) and a couple of different colors of plain cotton yarn. It is quick to make and I think it would make a great gift for a new mom.
I will stress though – as with all things intended for small children – that you need to keep an eye on the child as it is playing with the rattle. It can be very dangerous to swallow yarn.

Keep crocheting back and forth until the rectangle fits snugly around the ring. Cut the yarn and leave a long tail for sowing.

Assembly
The easiest way to do this, is to sow things together in this order:
Sow the dots to the mushroom.
Sow the ground pieces to the ring (opposite each other)
Sow the mushroom to the ground.
Now you can add the grass pieces, if you wish:
Grass
Create a knot on the green yarn and attach it underneath the mushroom AND the ground. Sow back and forth in the ground a few times, to make sure the yarn is secure.
Start
ch 5 – 15
finish
3 sc in each st on the chain
cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Sow the tail into the mushroom and the grass. Bury the tail in the stuffing.
Add as much or as little grass as you want (I added 3 pieces – two with a beginning chain of 10 and one with a beginning chain of 15)
